What is megapixels?
A megapixel is one million pixels. A pixel is a picture element.
Digital images are made up of thousands of these tiny picture elements. The more pixels, the higher the image resolution.
Resolution relates primarily to print size of the image.

Deciding the number of megapixels you need depends on the size of the print you want for your image.
Don’t let a salesperson push you to buy a digital camera simply because it has a high megapixel count.
Before purchasing, get answers to the above questions.
Minimum megapixels for quality prints
– just want the images to see on your phone or computer
– want to spend less
– just need small size prints (upto 8×10″ or less for example),
– very low usage of your camera
then a 5 megapixel camera should be enough for you.
If you want to print the cropped composition of an image, then go for bit high megapixel camera, say 6-8 megapixels.
